Ooni, Olofa and providential fate

Olofa_53rd birthday

By Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu

Twenty years ago, two young Nigerian men met and became business partners. They struggled towards financial freedom not knowing what fate had in store for them. Over the land, sailing on sea, flying like birds, the hustling went on.
Sweating it out, selling their bags of rice, they never thought of wearing crowns.
Today, the men are both first class traditional rulers in their respective home towns.
Welcome to the world of Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi  Esuwoye 11,  Olofa of Offa and Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi,  Ooni of Ife.
The guests had taken their seats as early ad 9. 20am for the 10am birthday programme. The Arole Oodua,  Oonirisha’s presence was announced by his drummers at exactly 10am. The Olofa and all the Kings in attendance rose and went out to welcome the Ooni.
Oba Ogunwusi later told the Offa people that the ancient town and its people are lucky to have a hardworking and honest man like Oba Esuwoye as their traditional ruler.
The Ooni said “My relationship with the Olofa dated back to 20 years. ”
Smartviews Magazine therefore met the Olofa after the ceremony to confirm the Ooni’s statement. Hear him: ”, When Ooni finished school about 20 years ago, I was in Iddo, Lagos,  doing rice and sugar business. He came to me, to guide him in the rice business. We didn’t know ourselves before the business transactions. ”
”Yeye was very hardworking and we became friends. We worked hard, we slept late and woke early. My friend Yeye later went overseas. Thereafter,  he went into construction business.”

Then the Olofa heard that one Adeyeye was to become the Ooni of Ife. He never knew his friend and one time business partner as Adeyeye, he just called him,  Yeye without knowing the full pronunciation of the name.
Oba Esuwoye continued his narration.
“When they told me one Adeyeye was to become Ooni of Ife,  I wished the person well,  not knowing he was my friend,  Yeye. ”
“But they later told me the Kabiyesi in waiting said he would do everything that I did for my people in Offa for his people in Ile-Ife, I said,  ‘who is this man?’ and they showed me his photo. ”
“On seeing his photo,  I exclaimed, this is Yeye! My friend,  Yeye!”
Today, they have continued their friendship where they left it.
The Olofa said Ooni Ogunwunsi is a hardworking man that believes in making success of whatever he lays his hand on,  and congratulated Ile-Ife for the choice of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
