According to the initiator of this worthy cause, Miss Hameedah Moninuola Maruf, a 200-level student of Educational Management Department, University of Ilorin, she has always had passion for helping people, making people around her feel comfortable and happy.
“I established the foundation in 2018. I wanted to have an outreach in December, 2018 in Lagos, but I gained admission and got busy with school runs but still have it in mind to help the less-privileged.”
“I told my friends about my idea and they were all in support. Late last year, I was in the hostel with a very good friend, Fawziyyah Lawal of Economics Department and I told her that I want to do my first outreach in January because we were on Christmas break in campus.
Hameedah and others during the visit.
I told her that because people coming back to school will still have money with them and they will be willing to support and she agreed with me and we picked a date together.”
And that was how the outreach preparation started. Hameedah started publicizing the outreach program and asked friends for supports.
“At the beginning, I was frustrated because people were not turning up as I expected but I was encouraged by friends who are my team mates not to be discouraged.”
“I had to be online morning, afternoon and night seeking for funds and other donations from people. Then, people started responding and things were coming forth and we were able to purchase items we would be taking for the outreach.”
She said that her aims and objectives is to be a channel that breeds change in people’s life, put smile on people’s faces, birth dreams and bring comfort to the less-privileged In the society.
“I am dedicated towards making the educational sector in remote areas stable by providing them with the necessary learning materials to make them participate in class activities and also make learning fun for them.
I am also passionate about the orphanages, putting smile on the children’s faces, spreading love and making them have a sense of belonging. Also, to show them that they are not alone, that there are people who love and care about them.”
Hameedah spoke further;
“I believe individually we are a drop, together we can make an ocean. I can’t do this alone without the supports of people who share the dream with me and are also dedicated towards making the society a better place. We rise by lifting others, that is my philosophy about life.” Hameedah concluded.
The students and management who are beneficiaries of the donated items were full of praises appreciation to Changing Lives Charity and urged others in the society to emulate the young and promising students behind the great initiative.
Hameedah appealed to those who have to keep donating to the foundation so that they can touch more lives.
