COVID-19 Response: NASFAT Spends N60.9m, Gives Free Meal For Eid-el-Fitr
Nasrul Lahi -L- Fatih Society, NASFAT has concluded plans to put smile on the faces of the needy in the society during Eid – L-Fitr celebration, through feeding of at least six thousand, five hundred (6,500) persons in about one hundred and thirty (130) outlets across the twenty two (22) zones of the society.
The programme, which is a tradition of the society, is to felicitate with Muslims in Nigeria and in the diaspora to mark the end of Ramadan. The programme this year, has been extended to zones of the society outside Nigeria.
In a release signed by NASFAT Publicity Secretary,
Akeem Yusuf, it was stated that NASFAT also disbursed sixty million, nine hundred thousand naira (N60.9m) in cash and food items to the vulnerables in the society, as palliative measure to mitigate the effect of the lockdown and movement restrictions occasioned by the Covid-19 Pandemic ravaging the country and the world at large.
It would be recalled that the government recently announced a complete lockdown and restriction of gatherings of people in the nation to curtail the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.
The restriction of movement of persons and vehicles has greatly affected the means of livelihood of many Nigerians, particularly those who live on daily income.
No fewer than eighteen thousand, nine hundred and forty two (18,942) households and one hundred and thirteen thousand, six hundred and fifty two (113,652) people benefited from the disbursement across the 22 zones of the society over 47 days of the lockdown. Some households got Ten Thousand Naira (10,000) while some got food items.
NASFAT’s Feed a mouth’ programme took the center stage during the month of Ramadan. According to Alhaji AbdulRahman Olarinde, NASFAT Welfare Secretary, the initiative, designed to cater for those intending to fast but have no means, provided Sahur and Iftar meals for the beneficiaries through out the fasting period.
Some of the outlets designated for the free meal to celebrate eid-l-fitr in Lagos zone includes, Alausa community, Ikeja, Ogba, Imota, Epe, Ijora Olopa among others.
