… Creates Wellness Center
FAJIM Medicare Foundation, FMF, is set to launch its annual undergraduate medical scholarship.
According to the Founder, Prof. Fatimah Abdulkareem, the public launch of FAJIM Medicare Foundation and award of scholarships to medical undergraduates will hold on Saturday, 2nd of November, 2019, at Hall 36, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Lagos, starting from 10am.
“We are going to award scholarships to ten students in various courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Radiography, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing among others.”
She said that FMF was registered as NGO last year, “and we have organnized four free medical outreach programs both in Lagos and Oyo States in which we have screened over 1000 and treated over 600 persons.”
The amiable professor made it known that they have a Wellness Center at Igboora, Oyo State where we provide free screening for people and have seen over 500 persons.”
The foundation is concerned with providing health education, free medical screening and treatment for the under-served communities as well as scholarships for students studying medical-related courses in the university.
At some of the outreach programs
“It is a non-profit and non-political organization founded in 2018, whose aim is to improve the health status of the under-served communities in Nigeria through health education, screening for early detection of diseases and promotion of preventive healthcare programs. The slogan of the foundation; “Hand-in-hand, Together We Can” aptly depicts its strong belief that by joining hands with the community, we can achieve improved health status.” She explained.
Abdulkareem stated that the vision of the foundation is to be a foremost mon-governmental organization committed to improving the health status of Nigerians with emphasis on the under-served communities.
“Part of our mission is to encourage students to take up careers in the health care professions as well as collaborate with local and international bodies with similar objectives.”
In addition, Prof. Abdulkareem pointed out that the foundation’s core values’ acronym is ‘PIE’, standing for Professionalism- expertise and competence,
Integrity- accountability, to God and humanity,
Empathy- compassion and responsiveness.
“Our main focus is on Health Education, Free Medical Check-Up and Scholarships for Students in the Health Care Professions.” She concluded.
The event will be chaired by Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti of Ibeji Foundation with Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-olu as Mother of the Day while the LUTH’s CMD, Prof. Chris Bode will be the Chief Host.
Other dignitaries expected at the occasion include Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Mrs. Aisha Ahmad, CBN Deputy Governor and Mr. Tunde Popoola, MD, CRC Credit Bureau among others.
