Jimoh Aliu advocates better days for widows

. Re-elected ANTP president

Better days await widows in the theatre-arts industry as new leadership of the Association of Nigeria Theatre-Arts Practitioners (ANTP) is set to enhance their living condition through regular financial empowerment.

ANTP ELECTIONThis is part of the take-off agenda of the newly elected leadership of the ANTP. The new officers, led by the National President, Chief Jimoh Aliu (MFR) were elected in Ibadan at the weekend.

Aliu who earlier led the Association as National President between 1995- 1998 said his second chance of leadership would be geared towards service to God and humanity, and unity of practitioners.

He noted that widows of departed theatre artistes are languishing in poverty and deprivation, and his leadership is set to design annual programmes that would fetch enough proceeds to be regularly shared by them (widows).

ANTP ELECTION 2Aliu added that the new ANTP will partner with governments at all levels and other stakeholders towards promoting Nigeria’s culture and tourism. He called for unity and honesty among practitioners in the make-believe industry, saying that is the only way to achieve greatness. “Stardom minus honesty, fear of God and patriotism to one’s country amounts to nothing” he said.

He decried sharp practices and trampling on members human rights by a few priviledged members who always seek financial support on behalf of the Association only to divert same for their personal use.

Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Association, Ambassador Yemi Farounmi urged the ANTP leadership to be selfless and position the Association in a way that would make it beneficial to members. Faroubi, former Ambassador to Philippines added that the industry is advancing and making professional progress by the day, so the ANTP should look for new ways of doing things to enable its members compete favourably with their counterparts from around the world.
