Brother Muhammad Mustapha, a graduate of Statistics from University of Ilorin, has been returned as the Amir (President) of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Agege Area Council of Lagos State.
This was made known recently during the virtual electoral conference of the highly respected society.
Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic which has restricted social gathering, all the area councils in Lagos conducted their conferences virtually.
Speaking on the topic; “Followership;The Ship To Leadership”, during the conference, the Guest Lecturer for the day and an highly respected scholar, author and educationist, Dr. Zafaran Adeniyi, urged the Muslim youths and the appointed executives to keep towing the line of excellent leadership and followership.
“In Islam, leadership is a big trust. So as leaders, we must always be conscious of Allah swt and Islamic etiquette. Islam is total obedience to Allah and His Prophet and Allah talks about obeying leaders in Qur’an 4 vs 59 (Obey Allah, Obey His Rosul and those in leadership) ” Dr. Zafaran explained.
“Part of your duty is to spread peace in the world and that’s what islam stands for. Allah has chosen you to help humanity and take responsibilities. If you make mistakes, you will be corrected and it makes you get better. Good followership makes good leadership. And this preserves the great legacy of islam.”
He advised them on the need to take responsibilities and play their roles in expanding the frontiers of dawah activism in all schools around them as well as among all Muslim youths and parents in the area. “It’s only Allah swt that will reward you in manifold for your efforts.” He concluded.
Adeniyi also advised them to do regular stock-taking of their activities in order to stay on track and get better individually and as a body.
Also speaking at the event, a patroness of Muslim Students in Agege Area Council and former Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists in Lagos State, Hajia Sekinah Temitope Lawal, called on the Muslim youths to stay focused on the path of their dawah activities and continue to be good ambassadors of Islam as they impact positively on the young minds academically, morally and spiritually.
Mallam Abdul Akeem Olalawon was the chairman of the virtual conference. The much awaited highpoint of the conference was done by the chairman of the Shura (Electoral Committee), Ustaz Nurudeen Tijani.
Based on the norms of MSSN, Ustaz Tijani dissolved the out going executives led by Ustaz Muhammad Mustapha and prayed for Allah’s guidiance over the incoming executives.
He thereafter announced the names of the newly appointed executives of the council as follows:

In his acceptance speech, the reappointed Amir, Mallam Mustapha called on all members to support the executives in all areas and correct them when need be.
“I see this as another great task and a new opportunityto serve the cause of Islam. We need the commitment and support of everyone. We also pray for divine guidance in steering the ship of leadership entrusted on us.”
