Postponement warning cast aside, the Independent National Electoral Commission will conduct the Edo state gubernatorial election on Saturday, September 10, as scheduled.

The Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police earlier advised the electoral body to consider shifting the election to enable them deal with suspected terrorists issues at the weekend, as they fear likely planned attack in the state during the Eid el Kabir holiday.

News of the postponement advice had generated mixed reactions in the state and counter accusations among the major political parties.

Having “consulted widely”, the INEC is now set to, rather than shift the elections, work with the security agencies to find alternative solutions to any likely security breach.

The All Progressives Congress’ Godwin Obaseki and the PDP’s candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu are the major contenders in the battle for the Edo Government House..
